President John Dramani Mahama has announced that he will officially break ground for Ghana’s first farmer service centre this Friday at the Afram Plains, marking the launch of a nationwide initiative to support agricultural productivity.

Speaking as the special guest at the Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026, themed “Transforming Agribusiness through Local Innovation and Technology,” President Mahama outlined the government’s plan to build 50 farmer service centres across the main agricultural producing areas of the country. The first phase will cover 11 centres.

He explained that farmers will be required to register with their local service centres to access a range of support services aimed at improving efficiency and output. These services include mechanisation support such as tractors, ploughing, harrowing, transport, fertilisers, and shellers for grain processing.

In addition to equipment, farmers will receive training, and extension officers will provide technical advice and guidance to improve production practices.

President Mahama said the initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise agriculture in Ghana, enhance productivity, and strengthen local agribusiness through innovation and capacity building.

“I am pleased to announce that I am going to cut the sod or break the ground for the first farmer’s service center this Friday at the Afram Plains. The government intends to build 50 of these centres nationwide and in the main agricultural producing areas.

“The first phase will cover 11 centers…Farmers will be required to register with their local farmers service centers and they will get mechanization support interms of tractors, ploughing, harrowing, transporting, fertilisers and shellers for processing their grains and many other supports. They will also be given training. there will be extension officers who will give them advise on their production.”

The Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026 brought together stakeholders in agriculture, technology, and agribusiness to explore solutions that promote growth and sustainability in the sector.
