Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has promised to maintain the free SHS policy when voted to power in the upcoming December general elections.
According to the Vice President, Contrary to the promise by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to cancel free SHS when voted into office, he would enhance the policy.
This was shared in a document giving a sneak peak into the vision of the NPP flagbearer on education.
“Under the competent Dr. Bawumia, Free SHS would not be canceled, contrary to the intentions of NDC’s incompetent leader who has pledged to cancel it in the unlikely event he is elected). Dr. Bawumia’s presidency shall maintain and enhance FREE SHS.”
The Free SHS policy was the flagship policy by then Candidate Akufo-Addo in the lead up to the 2016 election. A policy which has served and benefited over 5 million students in the country.
Prior to its implementation, the opposition NDC attacked the policy and sponsored campaign against its implementation.
The Policy was touted as impossible by then John Mahama government, calling the promise as a scam.
