Ghana is the best governed nation in West Africa according to The World Economics Governance Index 2024, a United Kingdom (UK) based research organization.
The research organization also ranked Ghana as the 5th best country on the continent in terms of governance out on 54 countries.
Ghana came behind Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa and Botswana at first, second, third and fourth places respectively.
This makes Ghana the best governed country in the West African sub-region which consist of Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Liberia, Cote D’Ivoire among others.
According to the research group, the countries were assessed based on corruption perception, rule of law, press freedom and political rights with equal weight given to all four criteria.
This revelation comes on the best of numerous socioeconomic challenges that has plaque the West Africa country which is currently under an IMF programme.
Ghana has over the years been touted as a beacon of democracy on the continent as citizens enjoy freedom and rights with no restriction
Despite existing issues, Ghana remains resilient and has the ability to withstand and recover from difficulties translating into effective governance even in the presence of socioeconomic challenges.
Ghana heads to the polls in December 2024 to elect a new president and members of parliament.
As associated with many elections, the upcoming general election is tipped to be keenly contested as the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) plots to unseat the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
