The member of parliament for the Odododiodio Constituency,and former minister of youth and sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has disclosed that, he has fulfilled a promise he made to former President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking in an interview with Ablade Tv on Thursday, August 26th, 2021, Vanderpuye indicated that, Samuel Takyi’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic victory is a fulfillment of a promise he made to John Dramani Mahama.
According to Vanderpuye, they had a vision long ago to construct the Bukom Banku boxing arena, and John Dramani Mahama came to power to build it.
He revealed that, he promised Mahama that if he is able to construct the Bukom Banku boxing arena, Ghana would win a medal in the commonwealth champions, Olympic champions and world champions.
The Bukom Boxing Arena was constructed and commissioned in December 2017, with the vision to nurture young boxers from the community which is known to be the hub for nurturing boxers for Ghana
He added that, Samuel Takyi’s medal proves that, he had finally fulfilled the promise he made to John Dramani Mahama.
However, Nii Lante Vanderpuye took the opportunity to congratulate Samuel Takyi who was also present at the interview, and advised him to open the door so that others can follow his footsteps, because he is more unless like a shining light who is leading the way for people to follow.
“We had a vision years ago and today, it’s a reality. before we would begin the construction of the Bukom Boxing Arena, I told [former] President Mahama that if we are able to do this project we will get commonwealth champions, Olympic champions and world champions.
You have opened the door for others to excel. All I want to tell you is to hold on to that door, don’t shut it.
It literally means you have become a shining light and you don’t have to switch it off because if you do those behind won’t be able to follow your steps,” the MP said.
